Dry Needling
Dry Needle Therapy In Hendersonville, NC
Pain Relief & Improved Muscle Movement
Dry needling is an alternative treatment option to improve muscle movement and provide pain relief. It is sometimes referred to as intramuscular manual therapy or trigger point dry needling. The treatment, which uses a dry needle and no medicine, is designed to deactivate trigger points in the muscles. At Empower Physical Therapy in Hendersonville, NC, we offer dry needle therapy to help relieve an array of painful conditions in the body.
The muscles of the body sometimes develop trigger points which can be tender to the touch. These trigger points can form due to muscle overuse or injury. When a trigger point is touched, it can cause pain in other parts of the body. Dry needling is used to relax these trigger points and alleviate pain.

About Dry Needling
Our Procedure
During your dry needling session, our physical therapist will insert a sterilized, thin needle into the skin to shut off the trigger points in your muscles. The procedure involves little to no pain. The risk for infection is low and the procedure generally takes about 15 to 30 minutes.
Some patients may experience muscle fatigue, drowsiness, or dizziness after the procedure, with the symptoms generally going away quickly. Patients may enjoy pain relief from the procedure lasting several weeks. Although just one session may provide relief from acute pain, two or three sessions may be needed to achieve relief from deep or chronic pain.
Conditions Alleviated
Dry needling physical therapy may be used in conjunction with other treatments to provide relief for many conditions, including lower back pain, leg and hip pain, arm and shoulder pain, tendonitis, impingement, face and jaw pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, ankle and foot pain, and neck pain.
Most adults and teens with musculoskeletal issues can benefit from dry needling. However, patients with certain bleeding disorders should not have the treatment.
We can work with your doctor to determine if dry needling is beneficial as a treatment for your pain. Whether you are interested in dry needling for back pain, arm pain, leg pain, or other types of body pain, Empower Physical Therapy is here to help.
